Blow Out and Panning

To create the blowout effect i had to change my camera settings. ISO was on 50, the aperture was on F8, and the shutter speed was 1/2.5. I had lowest ISO so it wouldn't have a grainy texture. That means i needed a slower shutter speed to allow enough light to come in. The other way would be to have a higher ISO and fast shutter speed but that would give a grainy, low-quality look.

Panning is when only your main object is in focus and the rest is blurred by moving your camera with your object. It should look like your moving object is frozen in motion and all the other objects that are still or moving in different direction are blurred. My camera settings for this photo were ISO-50, aperture-F8, and shutter speed-1/.2.5. I could have followed my object better to make her more in focus. Trying to get her in focus was the most difficult thing to do.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is how long the hole on the camera stays open while taking a picture. The longer it is open, the more light that can come in. This also allows for more blur to occur. That is how we were able to take a picture in the room and able to blur the light into drawings. Shutter speed doesn't add the grainy texture like ISO. My favorite picture was when Mariah and Patrice outlined me with light because it just looks unreal.

Aperture

Aperture is the size of the hole in the shutter. A smaller hole, or larger Fstop, will have a larger depth of feild. A bigger hole, or smaller Fstop, has a smaller depth of feild. The depth of feild would change if objects further away are clear or blurred. In the bottom photo the hole would be big. In the top photo the hole would be small.

ISO is the shutter speed of the camera. The higher the number the slower the shutter. Flash added its own light and made everything in a way 1 color. ISO took in the light that was already there and kept the same colors. You would change your ISO depending on how bright the object is. Also, you decide ISO if the subject is going to be moving. ISO uses the natural light opposed to flash just making everything bright. A fast ISO will be darker then a slower 1 because it doesn't allow as much light to get in.

Flash

Flash adds light to dark areas. It freezes time to eliminate blur. The cons of flash is that it takes away shadows and make you look flat. Also, if you take a picture at night it will black out your background. Flash is a great idea when your subject is dark and the background is light. It will get the best of both worlds. Flash is almost never a good idea. It just takes too much from the photograph. In this photo, you can see the sky and the rich colors of the lights.

Metering

A light meter measures the light of what you want to take apicture of. It finds the "middle gray" and adds what it thinks is the right amount of light. In 1 picture I used the computer screen as a meter to measure middle gray. This made the light on the screen perfect, but also made everything really dark. In the 2nd picture I used my partner's skin. This added light to the picture so that she is very visible but in doing so made the computer screen so bright you cant see anything on it. Spot metering can help in situations where it is very dark but flash would take away from the picture.

Surrealism: "Day 'N Nite"

The dream symbol I incorparated into my project was stealing. According to dreammoods. com, this represents that I have unfulfilled goals. I have goals that are really high. That is why aiming for the stars is beneath me. I am shooting for the heavens. This is also characterized that I have the star in my pocket and still reaching higher. The symbol that the book is flying and I am just a peice of it signifies that I am trying to keep up with all the knowledge in this world but am not even close.

Surreal Practice Tutorials

I was unable to complete the desert tutorial so I cannot make list the different aspects of the tutorial. Doing the eye surreal tutorial will help me tremendously with my surreal project. It showed me that it is not as difficult as it seems to make an object surreal. It gave me ideas on how to use photoshop to make a group of unsimiliar objects merge effortlessly into 1 peice of art.
